I have been thinking about doing something similar in fact.
I recently bought a JenSX1000 synth, and it has a DCO that uses this same method.

Is there any chance you could email me Tim Twillman’s Arduino MIDI library as his link and site is down…

I’m trying to get a MidiVOX running, the standard midi library wont compile…

Hi Selim Dumlu,

This circuit should be working, it’s not that different from the datasheet. It’s been a long time since I build it. The output pins are two outputs, one is sine and one is square. To test the output you should connect ground and either pin 1 or pin 2 to your oscilloscope or headphones. Else you should refer to the datasheet. If you find the mistake, please leave a followup.

Hi J.

There’s no sound coming from the Arduino; it’s only used to control the other chips. Connect equal resistors to the MCP42100 pins 6, 9 and the second MCP42100 pin 9 and join their outputs for a resistor based mixer. These MCP42100 function as rudimentary envelope generators. The actual sound is generated by the 82c54 interval timers (square waves).
